Job Context
- The main responsibilities of the MA working in the PPC Unit will be to organize and carry out, under supervision, effective treatment of patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders, while working in conjunction with MSF medical staff on the integration of psychiatric treatment with the medical services.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide treatment for patients suffering from severe psychiatric disorders with specific attention to the cultural context.
- Ensure that guidelines and psychotropic medications from MSF standard drug list are available in the project.
- Ensure that proper information on treatment and follow up are collected in order to monitor the provision of care.
- To fill a paper file for each patient followed up, and a health card with the medications delivered to handover to the patient.
- To deliver himself the psychotropic medication to the patient, explaining the side effects, the best way to take the treatment and the absolute necessity to be regular
- To note in the pharmacy book the consumption of medication : date, name of the patient, name of the medication and dosage and number of tablets delivered
- Establish collaboration/communication with medical specialties in the project in order to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
- This position includes initial training in the identification and treatment of main psychiatric illnesses, through theoretical lectures, practical exercises, shared consultations and supervision. Therefore, in the first weeks, the main responsibilities include: Participation in all learning moments through case discussion, attendance to MH Gap Training, shared consultations with psychiatrist and other Mental Health professionals.
- To inform the supervisor about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective.
- To ensure the collection of proper information on non-therapeutic activities.
- Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential.
- To participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer support to MD, MAs or nurses (working in the IPD and OPDs) on diagnosis and treatment of moderate to severe mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines.

Educational Requirements
- Diploma in Medical Faculty Degree, Registered with BMDC. Clinical experience in Mental Health and experience with MSF or other humanitarian organizations is an asset.
