Job Context
  • The MA/Paramedic is a member of the IRC health team and will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the IRCs Primary healthcare activities in the Rohingya Refugee Camp, (S)He will ensure the delivery of high quality emergency and primary healthcare activities to the local catchment population including child health and sexual and reproductive healthcare services. Under the supervision of the Medical Doctor and in-conjunction with other healthcare staff, the MA/Paramedic will be responsible for the delivery of basic medical care, and in particular:
  • Apply knowledge and skills to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of emergency and primary healthcare problems, ensuring appropriate patient triage and referral as needed.
  • Provide health promotion and counselling to patients and caregivers.
  • Ensure emergency and primary healthcare services are implemented in conformity with relevant Ministry of health or international guidelines.
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of patient information and consultations in relevant patient registers and facilitate the timely submission of require health reports.

Job Responsibilities
  • Clinical care:
  • Provide direct clinical care, working closely with the other clinical staff to ensure the delivery of high quality emergency and primary healthcare services.
  • Triage, screening and assessment of patients.
  • Provision of inpatient and outpatient treatment (where possible), ensuring medications are given to patients as prescribed by the Medical Doctor.
  • Delivery of hygiene promotion, health education and patient/care giver counselling.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control measures.
  • Ensure accurate recording of information in the clinic registers, and timely completion of summary reports.
  • Ensure clinic areas are appropriately stocked with essential equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is respected, and that all consultations are conducted in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Staff Supervision & Development:
  • Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and provide guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.
  • Provide nursing/medical support and mentorship to other staff, providing on-the-job training where needed.
  • Project Management :
  • Implement outreach activities with the rest of the team to access "hard to reach? and vulnerable beneficiaries to increase service utilization.
  • When available work with and support community volunteers to provide health promotion, community mobilization and awareness raising.
  • Ensure regular inventory and consumption tracking of medical drugs and supplies.
  • Work with relevant staff to ensure prompt requesting of medical drugs and supplies.
  • Coordination & Representation:
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local communities, local government agencies and other implementing partners.
  • Monitoring & Reporting:
  • Ensure all patient consultations are documented and patient records completed.
  • Submit daily reports in a timely manner.
  • Other Duties:
  • Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of the team; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to IRC management and liaising with community leaders and other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for IRC programs.

Educational Requirements
  • Certificate or Qualified Paramedic with Paramedic diploma/certificate.
Experience Requirements
  • At least 2 year(s)
Additional Requirements
  • Age at least 24 years
  • Both males and females are allowed to apply
  • Registered with local Nursing/Paramedic Council.
  • Ability to lead, train, supervise and facilitate other medical staff and community health workers in their respective tasks.
  • Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment.
  • Skills to provide sensitive and appropriate medical counselling.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure in a stressful environment, displaying patience, compassion and diplomacy.
  • Ability to be innovative, flexible, adaptive, and willingness to work in challenging situations.
  • Ability to live in challenging conditions and ability to work under difficult, high pressure situations
  • At least 2 years clinical Nursing/Paramedic experience in emergency and primary healthcare.
  • Previous experience and training in sexual gender-based violence and clinical care for sexual assault survivors (desirable)
